Skilled Migration
Skilled Migration to Australia is a program that has been developed to target migrants who have skills or abilities that will contribute to the Australian economy. The Australian government has placed a high priority on skilled migration as it benefits the economy and the person who applies under this visa category. There are many categories of skilled visas available these may either be permanent or temporary depending on the skills or employment of the applicant.
Skilled Independent Visa
A visa designed for people wishing to migrate to Australia who are not sponsored by an employer or relative. It gives the applicant the opportunity to live and work in Australia. Assessment of this visa is against a points test. There are also certain criteria the applicant must meet to be eligible for the visa such as the skills assessment of a nominated skill, be under the age of 45 years and have at least vocational English.
Skill Australian sponsored Visa
Do you have any relatives who are settled in Australia? This visa gives you the opportunity to be sponsored by an eligible relative in Australia. Successful applicants who obtain this visa will have the opportunity to live and work in Australia as well as gain permanent residency.
Skilled designated area sponsored Visa
Do you have any relatives settled in Australia? This visa is for skilled migrants who are willing to settle in the same area as their sponsor. After working for a total of 12 month period in a designated area it is possible for the applicant to qualify for permanent residency.
Skilled Independent Regional
Are you prepared to live in a regional area of Australia? This visa is designed to address skill shortages in regional areas and is valid for a period of 3 years. The applicant has the opportunity to apply for permanent residency after having remained in a regional area for a period of 2 years and being employed for at least 1 year during this time.
State/Territory nominated independent visas
Applicants who cannot meet the pass mark under other visa categories have an opportunity to apply for the State/Territory nominated Independent visa. This visa requires sponsorship by a State/Territory government. Applicants who are successful in obtaining this visa will be granted permanent residence and must be prepared to live and work in the sponsoring State/Territory area for at least 2 years.
Employer Nomination Scheme
This visa is for applicants who have an Australian company willing to sponsor them permanently for employment in their organization. It is an initiative to fill highly skilled positions in Australia with non-Australian applicants. The aim of the Employer Nominated Scheme is to fulfill the skill shortage in Australia by providing opportunities for Australians to acquire new skills and knowledge through the transfer of skilled migrants.
Temporary Business Long stay
A visa that is extremely popular as it permits Australian employers to sponsor overseas candidates for a period of 3 months to 4 years. Special arrangements have been made for employers in regional areas throughout Australia in relation to this visa. Employers can either be Australian or overseas businesses. An assessment criterion includes age, qualifications and English language abilities. |
